We often associate acne with teenagers. However, it can manifest at any age. In some cases, non-comedogenic cosmetology products and dermatologic treatment are not enough. We can then move to a treatment that is seldom talked about, yet very effective: IPL (or pulsed light).

IPL, what is it ?

The pulsed light (IPL), is a technique used for aesthetic and therapeutical purposes. It uses light under different spectrums and wave lengths. A wide variety of settings can be used to offer versatility and precision for the users: wave lengths, light intensity, time of impact, number of passes. These combinations allow for a wide variety  of aesthetic and medical applications with the IPL, including acne treatment

 What if I have sensitive skin?

This type of treatment is particularly designed for people with delicate and irritated skin, usually due to other methods of acne treatment.  It is also designed specifically for people who can’t or don’t want to take oral antibiotics against acne.

How does IPL work on the acne?

IPL will release a wave length that will destroy and limit the bacteria responsible for the acne (Propionibacterium Acnes), will regularize the blood flow, regenerate the skin and fight against inflammation.

Is IPL really effective? Do the pimples dissapear?

The effectiveness of IPL is very impressive, starting even after the first treatment! Right away, the skin will become calm, the inflammation will go down and the pimples will start to scar.

What will I feel exactly, is it painful?

The IPL treatment is not painful. It involves the application of a cool gel on the skin. A hand piece is slid on the skin on the region needing treatment, which will produce a light pulse, giving a light stinging feeling. The hand piece is then moved to a new area, until all the region has been treated. After that, the gel is removed, and a moisturizing cream is applied on the skin.

How many treatments do I need?

Four to six treatments are usually necessary to achieve a good result. Some patients will need additional treatments to reach that same result. The frequency is usually every 2-3 weeks

What are the secondary effects?

The main advantage is that there are very little side effects, excluding light redness following the treatment for a maximum of 24-48 hours.
